Aurora Borealis Trance
This past Saturday night, we had a nice display of Northern Lights up here along the shores of Lake Superior. Not as dramatic as last October, but unexpected (no advance notices from Space Weather) and reasonably impressive. The sight got me thinking, and I recalled an unusual experience I had with the Aurora Borealis up in Alaska some 30 years ago. Continue reading

University Grammar
We attended the annual Winter Carnival this past week at Michigan Tech University. Lots of great snow sculptures accompanied by the usual brisk winter air and stiff breeze. At about the halfway point of the walk across campus, we ducked into the Van Pelt Library to warm up and use the restrooms. In the library, we came across this cart with books for sale (a money-raising effort by the Friends of the Library) with its grammar-challenged wording. Continue reading
