About Walt Shiel

I earned a BS in electrical engineering and shiny new Air Force second lieutenant bars in June 1968. Spent 13 years on active duty and seven in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves, finishing as a lieutenant colonel. I have done graduate work in business administration and astronomy. I have been a freelance writer since 1985 and have been paid for it since 1990. I have written six books and dozens of magazine articles (published in the US, the UK, and Australia). I am the publisher for micro-publisher Slipdown Mountain Publications LLC and the managing partner for Five Rainbows Services for Authors & Publishers. And I'm working on more books.

Why the Knight in “Once A Knight”?

During my weekend forum on the Military Writers Society of America website last weekend (April 27-29), one of the members asked about my use of the term knight and my basing the fictional village of Cantiny on the actual old walled city of Toul, France. Revised Book Cover
